Mila, Quebec Institute of Artificial Intelligence

As their initial premises were overcrowded and inadequate at the University of Montreal, Mila’s team was looking for a space to accommodate all of its teams scattered around the City. The large available spaces located in the O Mile-Ex building turned out to be perfect for housing workspaces, start-up, and teaching areas, as well as administrative and student services spaces. Within only 13 months, the first 40,000 square-foot section of the Mila premises was able to accommodate students, professors and staff from the universities of Montreal, McGill and HEC.

It is with the invaluable help of experienced professionals and a proactive general contractor that we were able to complete this project in a fast-track waterfall design and construction method. In order to meet the tight deadline caused by the start of the school year, our main goal was to ensure the flow of information regarding the client’s needs and requirements, the designers’ details as well as the reality of the construction site entrepreneur. Without sustained and real-time communication, the deadline would have never been met.
